I have resorted to making my own iced mocha's.
I don't do Starbuck's (haven't in a long time), and at $3.20 a pop for a medium sized mocha at Peet's, it adds up quick. Especially after you get addicted to the things.
I was in love with Frappuccino's for the longest time, and eventually taught myself how to make my own version at home. I'm glad I did, because the basic Frapp hasn't been the same since they first 'changed the formula'. It's been changed at least once more since then and I like them even less now.
Peet's mocha's? Love them, don't love the price.
So I fiddled around with ingredients at home and got a pretty good facsimile. It might even be a bit better, if I do say so myself. lol It's certainly a whole lot cheaper, and I don't have to drive to Peet's and try to find a parking place to have one.
Then there's the trail mix.
Hubby and I tasted a pre-packaged trail mix from Trader Joe's some time back. We liked it a lot, but thought it was pretty expensive for what it is.
I decided to buy all of the ingredients separately and make my own.
It's much less expensive, and I can add ingredients in any amount I want (though I kept it pretty close to the amounts they had as it's a nice ratio).
All you need are cashews, pistachios, dried cranberries, almonds, and semi-sweet chocolate chips. All of those items can be found at Trader Joe's for a reasonable price. I bought all unsalted items, except for the cashews, because trail mix does need
some salt.
Since making the first two batches I've also taken to adding peanuts, and sometimes dried blueberries (Costco) for variation. It's a great snack, and amounts can be varied or omitted as desired. For instance you can omit the chocolate (though why anyone would want to is beyond me).
Just add equal amounts of all ingredients, slightly less of the chocolate chips. Mix it all up, pour into a storage container, and snack at will.
